Mota-Engil builds first cable car in Cape Verde

31.07.2015

Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção, the Manuel António da Mota Foundation and the Government of Cabo de Verde, have established a partnership for the execution of Cape Verde’s first cable car, in Brava Island, which has been recently opened to the public by the Prime Minister, José Maria Neves.

The cable car, whose first stone was laid on July 2014, will make life easier to the residents in Porto de Ferreiros and Lomba-Tantum in terms of cargo transportation, specially fish.

This is an infrastructure with 300 meters in length that overcomes a 180 meter slope and that presents a major impact for the well-being of the fisherman population.

In addition to the construction of the cable car, the pedestrian path connecting Porto de Ferreiros to Lomba-Tantum was also rebuilt and upgraded with stairs and paving.

With approximately seven thousand inhabitants the island is known as the “island of flowers” and is located in the extreme southwest of the archipelago of Cape Verde.
