Promotes awareness on plastic pollution and “green walks”

On World Environment Day 2025, Mota-Engil Uganda carried out a large-scale campaign aimed at raising employee awareness about global plastic pollution, engaging 1,382 participants across various sites in the country.

The initiative involved the direct participation of management and site leaders, who delivered presentations and awareness sessions on adopting behaviors aligned with Mota-Engil Group’s sustainability principles, reinforcing the message across all participants.

At the sites, a range of activities were organized, including tree planting, green walks, discussion sessions, and Q&A on plastic pollution, totaling 25 awareness campaigns focused on environmental best practices.
These actions were coordinated by essential team members such as construction managers, site engineers, and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) team, ensuring the campaign was consistent and comprehensive across all locations.
Some of the most impactful activities were the green walks, launched on World Environment Day and continued monthly at some sites.
Each walk focused on a specific theme: “End plastic pollution”, “Take responsibility for your own waste” (two editions), “Litter-free sites”, and “Circularity of waste”. So far, these five walks have resulted in the collection of 33.1 kg of waste, of which 29.8 kg was recycled and 3.3 kg incinerated.

In addition to encouraging employees to move and interact in a relaxed setting, the walks also help identify potential environmental issues at the sites — such as invasive species, missing signage, or excessive vegetation — enabling the definition of action plans and immediate interventions to address the issues identified, contributing to ongoing environmental maintenance and monitoring.
