A safer and more effective response for vulnerable communities in Nigeria.
In several communities within the Kano Maradi region, where Mota-Engil Nigeria operates, many local families continue to rely on traditional open fires for cooking, lacking access to safer and more sustainable energy solutions.
To address this challenge, the Social and Environmental team of the Kano Maradi project, in partnership with Immaculate Facilities, developed an innovative solution: eco-friendly stoves manufactured from recycled ceramics repurposed directly from the project.
The use of these stoves makes meal preparation safer, more efficient, and healthier, while also reducing the environmental impact associated with the use of traditional firewood and significantly lowering smoke emissions.
In addition, small chairs were produced using leftover wood from the project, providing both comfort and practical value for community members. Both the stoves and the chairs were distributed free of charge to the most vulnerable groups, including the elderly, widows, and people with disabilities in local communities.
