Mota-Engil names Gonçalo Moura Martins Chief Executive Officer

23.04.2013

Gonçalo Moura Martins has been named Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Mota-Engil Group (CEO), the position formerly held by Jorge Coelho.

With this change, Executive Committee member José Pedro Freitas was given the position of Financial Director (CFO), duties previously performed by the new CEO.

Gonçalo Moura Martins has been with the Group for 23 years and is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors. During the course of his career, he has held positions of executive leadership and senior management in all the business segments of the Mota-Engil Group.

In the internal communiqué of the appointment, Gonçalo Moura Martins highlighted the “great personal and professional qualities of his predecessor”, adding that it had been “a great privilege to work on the Executive Committee under the leadership of Jorge Coelho”.

Acknowledging that ahead of him awaits a great challenge with an enormous demand “due to the size of the Group, its ambitions as lined out in the “Ambition 2.0” strategic plan, and the crisis that is being felt in a large part of the economies where we operate,” the new CEO continues to manifest confidence in the performance of his office. He promises to continue pursuing the strategic guidelines and goals defined in “Ambition 2.0”, admitting the possibility of studying new markets to strengthen the internationalisation of Mota-Engil.

Chairman of the Board of Directors expresses his vote of confidence

António Mota, Chairman of the Board of Directors and major shareholder of Mota-Engil, gave his vote of confidence in the new CEO, “whose qualities of leadership and capacity for work and decision-making we have all become used to admiring. He is the right man to continue developing the Mota-Engil Group and to continue introducing the changes demanded of us by the world in which we live today”.

Thanking Jorge Coelho for the work he accomplished, António Mota stated that the former CEO, who left on his own initiative, will remain connected with the Group, as Chairman of the Strategic Consultative Board, the body that will be responsible for supporting and counselling the executive bodies of the Group at the strategic level.
